Tar & Chip in New Jersey
If you are looking for the durability of asphalt but want the look of stone, tar & chip is the way to go. Hicks Paving is able to supply you with many different colors of stone to match your surroundings.
Tar & Chip costs less than asphalt, and is virtually maintenance free. It has a beautiful appearance that can match your home or landscape, and is extremely durable. If it rains or snows, Tar & Chip provides increased traction for your vehicle, which is especially useful for driveways with a steep incline.
How Does Tar & Chip differ from Asphalt Paving
After the prep work is completed (which is almost identical for tar & chip, as it is for asphalt paving) a coat of liquid asphalt is applied to the existing surface. This is accomplished carefully in order to apply a consistent amount that is heated to the right temperature.
After the liquid asphalt is applied, a crushed chip stone is spread out on top of the surface. The color of stone varies based on your preference. The stone adheres to the hot liquid asphalt, then a roller is used to embed the stone into the tar. On jobs where multiple courses are required, the entire process is repeated.
