Petro Matting is a layer that is installed with a tar adhesive to allow new material to adhere to existing pavement, preventing existing cracks from mirroring through new asphalt.
New petro matting can be installed one of two ways: the most common way is by installing a piece of matting over each crack that is approximately ½” or greater in width. The second method is usually done on commercial lots by applying hot liquid tar over the existing surface, then laying felt-like material 8’ wide over the complete area.
